Florida’s Grandfathering Rule Campaign And What This Can Do For You!

Are you a local registered contractor in the state of Florida? You may be eligible for a limited time opportunity from the Florida DBPR, Construction Industry Licensing Board. The CILB is extending a grandfathering rule to contractors that meet certain requirements.

Anyone who holds a valid local registration, and meets all the requirements, in one of the contractor categories (any licenses obtained through the CILB) may apply for a certified state license without taking an exam. Normally, this process would be a lot more difficult with having to pay ($295) and sit for an exam (extra time preparing for the exam and taking the exam could save them over 40 hours). Now is the time to upgrade and bypass the requirement for examination as this rule is only in effect for a limited time.

Benefits Of Upgrading Your License

The benefits of upgrading your license are that it will allow you to bid on/complete jobs statewide whereas a local license only allows the contractor to work within the specified county or area. For example, if a contractor has a local license in Miami-Dade, they would be unable to bid on jobs even one county over in Broward. This upgrade alone can open up the opportunity for plenty of jobs and benefit your company and its outreach.

What Are The Requirements?

Though this is a great opportunity to save time and money, it’s important to recognize the criteria that are necessary for the upgrade of the license. These are the requirements needed:

-You have obtained the registered local license by written examination through a substantially similar examination such as those exams produced by the National Assessment Institute, Block and Associates, NAI/Block, Experior Assessments, Professional Testing Inc, or Assessment Systems Inc.

-You have at least 5 years of experience as a contractor in which your license is valid and active.

-You have not had your license revoked at any time, suspended within the last 5 years, or been assessed a fine in excess of $500 within the last 5 years.

With that being said, this is a limited-time option for an upgrade that could change the future of your business so it is important to jump on the opportunity presented.  The process will be saving you time and money and if you have the previously mentioned requirements, you may be eligible to upgrade your current license from local to state-wide.
